PickRPres.com Brings together Music, Politics, Students and Voting
San Clemente, CA (PRWEB) October 17, 2007 -- Finally a way to get my students excited about politics. Designed by a teacher, pickRpres.com gives educators and students a way to not only learn about the presidential candidates, but interact with each other as well. With up to the minute updates from every candidate's RSS and video feeds, the user will always have the most current unbiased written and video information about every candidate.
The interaction of pickRpres.com comes when the user creates an account and has the ability to post comments, vote for candidates, and monitor the candidate's progress. With six easy questions your student can have their voice heard by the world. The student will be able to vote for the candidate he or she supports and see their vote will have immediate impact on the totals of her candidate as votes are counted in real-time and updated immediately. Another great option is the commentary section. Students will be able to sound off about anything to do with the campaigns. They can post concerns, comments, insights, and interact with others that may have similar or conflicting points of view. Students will now have a voice and as an educator you can track their understandings.
Currently pickRpres.com is being used by multiple teachers in the Garden Grove Unified School District with positive results. Not only are the Social Science teachers using the site, but other content areas as well. "All teachers should use this tool, because politics affects every subject matter. It is essential that students understand that people voting effects everyone. Their vote affects everyone"; states Jacob Ellingson, an English teacher at Los Amigos High School. "I have my students create an account and email me their username; then I can go on and find their comments and votes and use the site to assess if my students understand the public document statements made by the politicians and can follow verbal cues of the politicians in their videos. Having those video feeds is invaluable. It saves me hours going out and looking for these clips on my own. The best part is that the site is easy to make lessons around that fall into the California State Teaching Standards."
Students will continue to be excited by the interactivity of this site as pickRpres.com's sister site pickRset.com will team up to have musicians and celebrities alike vote and comment on the candidates and issues they support. The student can now feel that they have a connection with some of their favorite bands and actors as they each express and explore their concerns and hopes for America's future.
We tell our students that voting is important; now you can show them how to become informed before they go.

The Politics Behind Olympics Games
Among the Greeks, fitness competitions and games were nationalistic in spirit; states were said to have been prouder of Olympic victories than of battles won. Women, foreigners, slaves, and dishonored persons were forbidden to compete. Contestants were required to train faithfully for 10 months before the games and had to take an oath that they had fulfilled the training requirements before participating. At first, the Olympic Games were confined to running, but over time new events were added. The winners of the Olympics were crowned with chaplets of wild olive, and in their home city-states male champions were also awarded valuable gifts and privileges.

The Politics Of Fashion
Everyone knows that clothes make the man. From the executive suits that litter Wall Street like the remnants of a ticker-tape parade to the coveralls and work boots worn by construction workers and mechanics, clothes tell the story of who we are and where we're going. Even when the workday is done, what we choose to wear on our own time is still a reflection of our personalities. From the sweat-suit to the wet-suit, our clothes are meant to be not only functional, but forthcoming as well. Clothes tell others what we like, and often, how we spend our time. Sports franchise logos are constantly on display on Main Street America. T-shirts with well known television, film and music icons can be seen almost anywhere. Clothes have som...

The Politics of Health
I was thinking about the quarrel (well, fight to the death, actually) between conventional medicine and alternatives like herbal or holistic medicine. So, I did some research to see if I could figure out what's the big beef between these to approaches to healing. I always believed that herbal medicine pre-dated conventional medicine by thousands of years. It turns out that it doesn't, not by THOUSANDS, anyway! Conventional medicine appears to be younger than herbal medicine by only about 1,100 years.
Politics And The Internet
According to a recent poll conducted by ComputerWorld, about forty percent of the population believes that people can increase their political power by going online. Hence, many academics believe that people in western societies are becoming more technologically educated in order to gain more influence in the political sector. For example, Mr. Jeffrey Cole, a director at the University of Southern California states, ?This year, 6% of regular Internet users said they have their own blogs, 16% said they post pictures on the Web, and more than 10% maintain their own web sites. In 2003, 3% of Internet users said they blogged, 11% posted photos, and less than 9% maintained web sites.?(ComputerWorld, 2005: 1) Thus, the question raised ...
